Two bodies pulled from Crocodile River; search may continue for third missing person

Two bodies were recovered from the Crocodile River near Kamagugu in Nelspruit, and authorities say the search may continue for a possible third missing person, according to IOL.

Who the victims were

According to IOL, the victims recovered by the SAPS Search and Rescue Team were a 20-year-old man and a woman estimated to be between 18 and 23 years old. IOL reports the male victim was positively identified by family members. The identity of the female victim has not yet been confirmed, although IOL says a family has been located and is expected to assist with identification.

How they were found

IOL states the bodies were discovered trapped inside a white SUV. Specialised rescue equipment, including the Jaws of Life, was used to extract the victims from the vehicle.

Possible third victim and ongoing search

As rescue teams were preparing to leave the scene, IOL reports, another family arrived and said their son had allegedly been travelling in the SUV and had not returned home. The family has been unable to reach him on his cellphone and believe he may be the third victim still missing in the river. IOL says the SAPS Search and Rescue Team may continue searching for a possible third victim.

Investigation

IOL reports that a case of culpable homicide has been opened and that investigations are ongoing.
