Northern Cape man jailed for five years for sexually assaulting girlfriend’s 15-year-old daughter

A Kimberley court has sentenced a 30-year-old man to five years’ direct imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s 15-year-old daughter.

What the court heard

The Kimberley Sexual Offences Court heard the assault occurred on December 11, 2025, in Homestead, Kimberley, while the teenager was lying under blankets. The man and his girlfriend lived in the same household.

During sentencing the court said every child should feel safe at home and found that the accused had abused the position of trust placed in him as a member of the household and someone regarded as part of the family.

Sentence and post-conviction orders

The mother’s boyfriend was given a five-year custodial sentence. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and ordered to have his particulars entered into both the National Register for Sex Offenders and the National Child Protection Register.

Previous convictions and bail status

The court heard the accused was not a first-time offender and had prior convictions, including for escaping from lawful custody in 2011, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm in 2013, and robbery in 2018. In a separate matter of robbery with aggravating circumstances, he was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment in the Kimberley Regional Court on July 7, 2026.

The court further noted that the sexual assault was committed while the accused was on bail for the robbery with aggravating circumstances case.

Prosecutors respond

“The NPA welcomes the outcome of this matter, which demonstrates that offenders who prey on vulnerable children and abuse positions of trust will be held accountable,”

said Mojalefa Senokoatsane, provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Senokoatsane added that crimes of a sexual nature against children have devastating and long-lasting consequences and that the criminal justice system remains committed to ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice. The NPA also acknowledged the work of the Sexual Offences and Community Affairs Unit and Thuthuzela Care Centres in providing specialised support and coordinated services to victims.
