Wits University’s WiSER institute opens 20 Years of Faces and Phases this week, an exhibition marking two decades of visual activist Zanele Muholi’s landmark photographic project documenting South Africa’s Black lesbian and transgender communities.
The opening runs on Tuesday evening, with the exhibition remaining on view for a month afterwards, offering an extended chance to see one of the most significant bodies of South African portrait photography.
