New Saxdowne Shopping Centre Set to Transform Retail Near Stellenbosch by 2026

A New Retail Landmark in the Cape Winelands
A new shopping destination is taking shape near one of South Africa’s wealthiest regions. The Saxdowne Shopping Centre, anchored by Shoprite and Clicks, is under construction along the bustling Stellenbosch Arterial and Saxdowne Road corridor, a location that links the industrial heartbeat of Cape Town with the refined charm of the Stellenbosch area.
Set to open by the end of 2026, this 6,000-square-metre retail development is designed for ease of access, welcoming both locals and travellers passing through one of the Western Cape’s busiest intersections.
Designed for Everyday Ease
Developed by Abland Property Developers, the Saxdowne Centre aims to combine functionality with character. The retail complex will span 6,027 square metres of gross lettable area on a 1.8-hectare site, offering a curated mix of convenience stores and services to meet the needs of nearby communities and commuters.
Abland says the architectural concept celebrates the raw, rustic beauty of Cape Town’s natural landscape. The design features exposed brickwork, rugged finishes, and industrial detailing, a modern tribute to the region’s unique blend of heritage and innovation.
“Every element has been crafted to feel authentic,” the developers said. “We want shoppers to feel both nostalgia and discovery as they move through the space.”
A Partnership Built on Legacy
The project also marks a new milestone partnership between Abland Property Developers and The Cavaleros Group, two leading names in South African real estate.
The Cavaleros Group, established in 1926, has nearly a century of experience across commercial, industrial, hotel, and retail developments. Abland, with over three decades of success in mixed-use precincts, brings a track record of forward-thinking, sustainable urban design.
Together, the two companies are combining expertise to shape a new generation of South African spaces, projects that drive economic growth and community empowerment.
Penny Cavaleros, CEO of The Cavaleros Group, said the partnership “unlocks the full potential of our landholdings and sets a new benchmark for sustainable urban transformation.”
Abland CEO Jurgens Prinsloo added, “Together we’ll deliver spaces that empower businesses and communities, driving progress and prosperity.”
Why Saxdowne Matters
The Stellenbosch corridor is more than a gateway to vineyards and academia. It’s a fast-developing economic zone that bridges working-class neighbourhoods, logistics hubs, and one of South Africa’s wealthiest towns. For residents, the Saxdowne Centre represents not just a place to shop but an investment in accessible, high-quality infrastructure close to home.
By blending thoughtful architecture with long-term sustainability goals, the Saxdowne Shopping Centre is set to become a local landmark, one that reflects both Cape Town’s rugged spirit and Stellenbosch’s evolving modern identity.
