Takealot Expands Into Business Services With New Procurement Platform

South Africa’s largest online retailer moves beyond shopping carts to boardrooms
For over a decade, Takealot has been the go-to destination for South Africans ordering everything from kitchen gadgets to big-ticket electronics. Now the country’s biggest e-commerce player is stepping into the boardroom. The company has relaunched Takealot for Business, a platform designed to help businesses of all sizes manage their procurement needs quickly and cost-effectively.
Simplifying how businesses buy
Takealot for Business offers a single-supplier solution that covers everything from IT equipment to catering supplies. Companies can now open 30-day interest-free accounts, access exclusive rebates and business coupons, and benefit from a streamlined logistics system.
For many businesses, procurement is an overlooked headache. Cash flow is tight, resources are stretched, and small mistakes in ordering can delay entire operations. Takealot says its new service takes away the hassle so business owners can focus on growth instead of admin.
“We recognise that behind every purchasing decision is a person trying to get things done as quickly, efficiently, and stress-free as possible,” said Marlise Bosman, Head of Takealot for Business. “Our commitment is to make their lives easier while they focus on running their companies.”
A growing portfolio beyond retail
The new B2B service is part of a bigger strategy. Takealot has been diversifying its offerings as it targets profitability by 2026.
Earlier this year, the company launched Takealot Fulfilment Solutions (TFS), a standalone business unit that brings together its logistics, courier, supply chain, and international freight capabilities. TFS is aimed at making it easier for South African businesses to import and export goods under one tech-driven platform.
Takealot has also ventured into financial services with its home loan hub, built in partnership with MortgageMarket. Through a single application, customers can compare offers from multiple South African banks. In Takealot’s own words: “It’s like adding a home loan to your cart.”
On the consumer side, TakealotMORE, the retailer’s subscription service, is attracting attention with benefits such as unlimited free TakealotNOW deliveries, free shipping on bulky appliances and furniture, and even free Mr D deliveries from Pick n Pay and other partner stores. Business customers who sign up for Takealot for Business can also test the subscription with a free one-month trial.
What this means for local businesses
In an economy where small and medium enterprises are struggling with rising costs and shrinking margins, an accessible procurement service could offer some relief. Instead of juggling multiple suppliers, business owners now have one platform that handles both purchasing and delivery, with payment terms designed to ease cash flow.
Public reaction online has been cautiously optimistic. Some see it as a lifeline for SMEs that often get locked out of bulk discounts, while others are waiting to see whether Takealot’s pricing is competitive enough to stand up to established wholesalers.
What’s clear is that Takealot is no longer just an e-commerce giant. It is positioning itself as a partner for both consumers and companies, embedding itself deeper into everyday South African life, whether that means shopping for groceries, applying for a home loan, or keeping a small business running.
