Benefit Concert Rallies Support for SA Radio Legend Darren Scott

Published

Veteran broadcaster Darren Scott is facing the toughest battle of his life—this time, off the airwaves. Diagnosed with a severe case of skin cancer, the beloved media personality has returned to South Africa for treatment, and now the community he once entertained is stepping up to support him.

In a show of unity and compassion, friends, fellow entertainers, and fans have organised a benefit concert to raise funds for Scott’s medical care. The event, set for Wednesday, 14 May at The Venue in Melrose Arch, promises an emotional evening filled with music, comedy, and hope.

A Voice That Touched Millions

Scott spent decades behind the microphone, becoming a trusted voice in South African households. While his illness has silenced that voice for now, the national outpouring of support reflects the deep connection he fostered with audiences across the country.

“This concert is about more than money,” said one of the organisers. “It’s about honouring someone who gave us so much—and reminding Darren that he’s not alone.”

A Star-Studded Lineup for a Cause

From 6:30pm to 9:30pm, the benefit show will feature a lineup of well-known local artists and comedians. Among them are music stars Ard Matthews, Jesse Clegg, Louise Carver, Kurt Darren, and Just Jinjer. Comedy legends Dave Levinsohn and Mark Banks will also take the stage, all lending their talents to a cause that has moved the nation.

Each act is expected to deliver not just entertainment but heartfelt messages of support for Darren and his loved ones.

How to Be Part of the Night

Tickets for the Benefit for Darren are now on sale through Ticketpro. Organisers are urging supporters to book early, as the event is expected to draw a large crowd. It will be an evening of remembrance, celebration, and solidarity for one of South Africa’s most recognisable voices.
