A December Night to Remember: Dvsn Coming to Joburg

Johannesburg’s music lovers are in for something special this December. The Grammy-nominated R&B duo Dvsn will headline the highly anticipated Once Upon a Time in Joburg concert on 7 December 2025, promising an evening of soulful nostalgia, emotion, and smooth harmonies under the city’s summer sky.

The event will take place at the Fourways Farmers Market, one of Joburg’s favourite live music venues, known for its laid-back atmosphere and unbeatable festive energy.

From TikTok Buzz to Joburg Main Stage

The announcement followed a viral moment on TikTok earlier this year when music legend Jermaine Dupri, who now manages Dvsn under his So So Def label, was asked to choose the group’s “one night only” 2025 concert destinations. On a whiteboard were several major cities: New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Washington D.C., and Johannesburg.

When Johannesburg wasn’t chosen in the viral clip, South African fans took to social media to express their disappointment. But fate had other plans. Weeks later, the Once Upon a Time in Joburg organisers confirmed that Dvsn would indeed be the headline act, and fans went wild.

Within hours, Phase 1 and Phase 2 tickets sold out, with Phase 3 now open due to overwhelming demand.

Fans Flood Social Media With Requests

Social media has been buzzing since the announcement. Fans have been tagging Dvsn relentlessly, requesting everything from Hallucinations and Too Deep to The Line.

The duo, made up of singer Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85, responded directly to fans on X (formerly Twitter):

“For everyone in South Africa, more to come. Working on updates for you all. We’re seeing everything you’re saying and paying attention.”

That personal response only heightened the hype. Many local fans said it was refreshing to see an international act actively engaging with their South African audience before even touching down.

A New Era for Dvsn

For those who haven’t kept up with the group’s journey, Dvsn originally rose to fame under Drake’s OVO Sound label in the mid-2010s. Their debut album, SEPT 5TH, became an instant R&B classic with its hauntingly intimate sound and minimalist production.

In recent years, the pair have redefined their sound and business direction. In June, Dvsn officially signed a multi-album deal with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def, which is now distributed globally through HYBE America, the powerhouse behind K-pop giants like BTS.

Dupri, speaking about the partnership, said he was drawn to Dvsn after seeing the emotional connection they had with their fans:

“After watching their shows and seeing how much love they get, I knew I had to sign them. They’re my first official signing under So So Def/HYBE.”

The duo’s last album, Working On My Karma, was released three years ago, and they’ve hinted that new music is on the way, making their December show in Johannesburg even more anticipated.

A Global R&B Celebration in Joburg

Once Upon a Time in Joburg has built a reputation for curating memorable nights that celebrate global R&B. Past editions have featured heavy hitters like GoldLink, Xavier Omar, and Sasha Keable, drawing fans from across the continent.

With Dvsn taking the stage this year, the festival continues its mission of putting Johannesburg on the map as a destination for world-class live music.

For local fans who’ve waited years to hear those smooth Dvsn vocals live, 7 December might just be the night they’ll never forget.
