Kristi Lowe’s Soulful New Single ‘Medicated’ Blends Dreamy Pop with Meaningful Lyricism

Following the raw vulnerability of her single “I’m Fine.”, rising South African soul-pop artist Kristi Lowe returns with ‘Medicated’– the second release from her highly anticipated debut album, ‘a glimpse inside my mind’ (out August 2025). Playful yet poignant, the track is an honest exploration of emotional detachment and mental health.

Written in the aftermath of her sister’s passing, ‘Medicated’ captures the disorienting reality of trying to heal while feeling numb. With poetic clarity, Kristi reflects on the paradox of medication: how, in the wrong circumstances, it can mute both sorrow and joy.

Despite its subject matter, ‘Medicated’ deceptively bright. Set to a lush, dreamlike soundscape, the track features upbeat , catchy melodies and hypnotic textures that mirror the emotional disconnect Kristi experienced. This contrast between tone and theme creates a sonic dissonance that’s both captivating and deeply intentional –  pulling listeners into the surreal headspace where joy and sorrow blur.

Lines like “Can’t hold in my sigh, as life passes me by” and “There’s no pill for grief” offer insight into her emotional state, while also inviting listeners into a wider conversation around grief and healing. More than a song about struggle, ‘Medicated’ is a reclamation of feeling –  a call to move beyond numbing and embrace life in all its complexity.

The single is accompanied by bold, surrealist artwork created by UK-based digital artist Aniko Michaelis, featuring Kristi floating in a hazy cloudscape, eating a bowl of cereal filled with pills. It’s a vivid visual metaphor for the emotional limbo of living on autopilot… and a striking representation of the track’s core message.

‘Medicated’  was released on all major platforms from June 27 2025. Since its release it has received multiple editorial playlist placements across DSPs (most notably Grown ‘n Sexy, New in Pop, and Soul Revival) and has received over 60 placements on local UK radio stations.
