Kyle Deutsch Rings in a New Era with His Nostalgic Pop Single ‘Calling’

A Familiar Voice with a Fresh Message
As the year winds down, Durban-born singer and songwriter Kyle Deutsch is back with a song that hits right in the feels. His new single, Calling, dropped on Friday, 17 October, and it’s already being celebrated as one of his most heartfelt releases yet.
Blending nostalgic pop melodies with an upbeat, modern groove, the track sees Deutsch teaming up with Willem Stander to create a sound that feels both timeless and fresh. It’s classic Kyle: melodic, emotive, and effortlessly catchy.
Speaking about the inspiration behind Calling, Deutsch said the song is “open for interpretation” and can mean different things to different people. “It’s about connection,” he explained. “If your best friend calls you, or someone you love, you’re always ready to go when they say, ‘Come over.’ It’s that excitement of being around the people who matter.”
From ‘Back to the Beach’ to Global Recognition
For many South Africans, Kyle Deutsch’s voice will always spark a bit of nostalgia. He first captured the country’s attention on Idols SA Season 10 back in 2014, finishing in the top five. But it was his collaboration with Shekhinah on Back to the Beach that truly made him a household name.
The song, released in 2015, became a radio staple and has since gained international traction, still charting across dance playlists in parts of Europe, including the Netherlands and France. Deutsch says that renewed interest abroad has encouraged him to expand his reach. “I want to broaden my audience,” he said. “Hopefully Calling does well in Europe as well as here at home.”
Over the years, the Can’t Get Enough hitmaker has shared stages with some of the world’s biggest artists, including Justin Bieber, John Legend, and Diplo, and bagged accolades such as an MTV Africa Music Award, a South African Music Award, and a Metro FM Award.

A New Chapter, On and Off the Stage
Beyond music, Kyle Deutsch’s life is entering a new season. The 35-year-old artist recently became a father for the second time and is taking joy in balancing his creative and family life. “I now have two small children, so I want to spend more time prioritising them,” he said warmly.
What many fans might not know is that Deutsch is also a practising chiropractor and part of the medical team for Durban City F.C., proof that his passion for wellness extends far beyond the stage. “I love travelling with the team and supporting them,” he shared.
What’s Next for Kyle Deutsch
Calling is just the beginning of what’s shaping up to be an exciting new era for Deutsch. He’s currently fine-tuning a full-length album, one he promises will be “a very nice mix” of styles, from Afrobeats and amapiano to pop and upbeat house rhythms.
“You’re not going to hear 12 songs that sound the same,” he said. “Each track has its own mood and story. It’s sonically enjoyable and really catchy. Something that’s going to stay in your head, for sure.”
While there’s no confirmed release date yet, Deutsch hinted that the album rollout depends on how well Calling performs. “If it connects the way I hope it will, then it might be time to drop the album,” he said with a grin.
For now, Calling stands as a soulful reminder of what Kyle Deutsch does best: blending nostalgia with heart, rhythm with hope, and connection with creativity.
