Mia Le Roux Withdraws from Miss Supranational 2025: What This Means for Miss SA

Published

on

Miss South Africa 2023, Mia Le Roux, will not be representing South Africa at the upcoming Miss Supranational 2025 competition. The Miss South Africa Organisation confirmed the decision in a recent statement, marking the second time Le Roux has stepped away from an international pageant.

The Miss Supranational 2025 finale is scheduled to take place on Friday, 27 June, in Poland, continuing the country’s recent tradition of hosting the event. The current titleholder, Harashta Haifa Zahra of Indonesia, will crown her successor in what is expected to be a high-profile international celebration of beauty and culture.

A Second Withdrawal Raises Questions

Le Roux previously withdrew from Miss Universe 2023 due to health concerns. While no specific health reason has been cited for her most recent decision, the pattern mirrors a growing trend within the Miss South Africa programme: a strategic reevaluation of participation in global pageants.

The Miss SA Organisation addressed the withdrawal with gratitude and diplomacy:

“With heartfelt gratitude to our incredible fans, we share that Miss South Africa will not participate in the Miss Supranational 2025 competition, set for June in Poland.”

“We deeply value the memories and connections of this event. We wish the Supranational Organisation a spectacular event.”

A Broader Trend in Miss SA Representation

Le Roux is not the only titleholder to make this decision. Her predecessor, Natasha Joubert, also opted not to participate in any international pageants during her reign as Miss SA 2024.

In 2023, runner-up Bryoni Govender stepped in for international representation, and she performed impressively. Govender not only secured a top 12 finish at Miss Supranational, but also took home the People’s Choice Award and was named Miss Supranational Africa.

These shifts suggest a changing approach within the Miss South Africa Organisation—one that may be more focused on national initiatives, individual well-being, or strategic timing.

What’s Next for Mia Le Roux?

Though she will not compete internationally, Mia Le Roux continues her role as a public figure and advocate. Known for her grace under pressure and trailblazing presence in the beauty industry, Le Roux’s legacy within the Miss SA framework remains strong.

Her decision to step back should be seen not as a retreat but as a conscious choice reflecting the evolving dynamics of pageantry in South Africa. As the local industry grows more intentional about its global engagement, Mia Le Roux’s reign will likely be remembered as one that redefined expectations.
