Nigerian Star Joins J Balvin and Doja Cat for FIFA’s First‑Ever Halftime Spectacle

Global music is aligning with the beautiful game once more – and Nigeria’s own Tems is taking centre stage. On Sunday, 13 July 2025, she’ll headline the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup Final Halftime Show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, complete with Colombian reggaeton icon J Balvin and genre‑blending star Doja Cat.

“A Beautiful Moment” for Africa and the World

Tems isn’t new to global stages – her standout set at the Global Citizen Festival: Accra in 2022 already showcased African artistry rising. But this FIFA stage carries deeper meaning.

“We’re going to bring the world together for a beautiful moment – to celebrate football, feel the unity that music brings, and improve the lives of millions of children through the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund,” Tems said.

The initiative behind the show is serious. The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund aims to raise $100 million for educational and football development programs. Remarkably, $1 from every ticket sold in the U.S. will fuel that goal. Fans have already lauded the announcement:

“Tems representing Africa on the FIFA stage? That’s history right there!”
“This is the win African music has been building toward for years.”

A Stage Full of Global Firepower

This halftime show isn’t just entertainment – it’s a statement. Global Citizen is producing the event, with Chris Martin of Coldplay curating the performance.

Latin music titan J Balvin, making his fourth appearance with Global Citizen, shared:

“From Medellín to MetLife! It’s a historic moment – for me, for Latin culture, and for every kid who dreams big.”

Doja Cat, known for her cultural flair – remember the South African flag-inspired gown at Central Park in 2024 – rounds off the trio. Her continued collaboration with Global Citizen merges music, fashion, and activism.

Why This Moment Matters

For African artists – especially women – global stages like these signal breakthroughs. Tems, from Grammy accolades to global chart success and collaborations with Wizkid and Drake, now steps onto one of football’s grandest stages. It’s proof: African talent isn’t emerging; it’s already leading.

Music and football fans alike should mark 13 July not just as a match, but as a celebration of cultural fusion, representation, and global unity.
