Two Suspects Killed in Boksburg Cash-In-Transit Heist Crackdown

Two suspects believed to be behind several violent cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies were fatally shot during a police operation in Boksburg, Gauteng. The deadly encounter took place after a joint team tracked the pair to a property in the area.
The suspects were linked to multiple robberies and a murder that occurred during a CIT heist earlier this month. Authorities say they had been under surveillance following a series of coordinated investigations.
According to Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, the suspects were connected to heists in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, including the 2 May incident where a G4S security van was bombed and a guard killed.
A combined operation between the Hawks and KwaZulu-Natal SAPS units made the breakthrough, using high-level surveillance to follow the suspects’ movements across provincial lines.
“What transpired is that the team from KwaZulu-Natal, a multidisciplinary team, was following information on the cash-in-transit heist on the 2nd of May this year, where a G4S security vehicle was bombed and ultimately a security guard was shot and killed, and then, thanks to the technology we’re using, they followed that information systemically up until it led them to Gauteng,” Mthombeni said.
