Police Investigate Firearm Theft in Eastern Cape Traffic Department Break-In

In a concerning incident, police in the Eastern Cape are investigating the break-in and theft of firearms from the Kouga Local Municipality Traffic Department offices in Humansdorp. The case, now under investigation by members of the Humansdorp South African Police Service (SAPS), has raised serious security concerns.
Burglary and Theft at Kouga Traffic Department
The break-in occurred between 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, when the premises were last secured, and 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, when the theft was discovered. Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, the provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that a case of burglary and theft is under investigation following the breach of the building’s roof.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the perpetrators used heavy machinery to breach the building’s roof, gaining access to the interior. The criminals made off with 17 firearms, along with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police are pursuing all available leads in the case, although no arrests have been made so far.
Call for Information
Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. In a statement, Gantana encouraged the public to report any details related to the theft by contacting the SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
