Eskom Maintains Stage 2 Load Shedding During Evening Peaks

Eskom has confirmed that Stage 2 load shedding will continue during evening peak hours today and again on Thursday, May 15, from 4pm to 10pm, due to ongoing pressure on South Africa’s electricity grid.
In a public statement, the power utility acknowledged the disruption caused by the power cuts and reassured the public of its ongoing commitment to stabilising the national power supply.
“We recognise the inconvenience this causes and remain committed to ensuring a reliable electricity supply,” said an Eskom spokesperson.
While there has been a slight improvement in unplanned outages since the previous day, Eskom reports that the overall system remains under significant strain. The utility is actively working on both short-term recovery efforts and long-term structural improvements to reduce dependency on load shedding.
Eskom also noted that load shedding incidents have decreased when compared to the same period in previous years, suggesting that progress is being made—albeit gradually.
The power utility continues to monitor electricity demand closely, especially as usage peaks between 4pm and 10pm. Should the situation change, Eskom has committed to providing timely updates.
Consumers are encouraged to reduce their electricity usage, especially during these critical hours, to help lessen the burden on the grid and minimise the risk of deeper stages of load shedding.
Tips to Reduce Electricity Use During Peak Hours:
-
Switch off non-essential appliances.
-
Avoid using high-energy devices like geysers or ovens during peak times.
-
Use LED lighting instead of incandescent bulbs.
-
Delay heavy washing machine and dishwasher use until after 10pm.
