Police have arrested four individuals believed to be linked to the disappearance of journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner. Authorities have confirmed the case is now being investigated as both a kidnapping and car hijacking.

The couple’s disappearance raised alarm after they vanished under unclear circumstances, sparking a joint operation across Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

According to SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the arrests were made on Sunday, 4 May 2025.

“The first person taken into custody was reportedly the last to be seen with the missing couple,” she said.

“During further investigations, officers arrested three more suspects who were found with various car parts suspected to belong to the missing journalist.”

Among those detained is a mechanic known for repairing and assembling vehicles in the KwaMhlanga area.

Police also seized two VW Citi Golfs that were allegedly in the possession of the suspects.

One suspect is expected to appear at the Mamelodi Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 6 May 2025. The other three will appear later in the week at the KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court.

The search continues, with a specialised police task team made up of counterintelligence, cybercrime, organised crime, and serious violent crime detectives, supported by the SAPS Airwing and drone units.
