SA Weather Warning: Damaging Winds and Cold Front Hit the Cape

South Africans in parts of the Western Cape and Northern Cape should prepare for a harsh weekend as severe weather conditions move in. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple warnings for damaging winds, rough seas, and icy temperatures from Saturday through Sunday.

The most serious alert is a Yellow Level 4 warning for damaging winds and waves from Table Bay to Plettenberg Bay, expected to make sea navigation risky and possibly impact informal settlements.

According to SAWS, “a Yellow Level 4 warning for damaging waves will remain in effect for Saturday and Sunday, making it dangerous for small vessels and personal watercraft.”

In the Northern Cape, a Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for damaging winds in the Hantam and Karoo Hoogland municipalities. These conditions will spread across the Central and Little Karoo and parts of the Cape Winelands in the Western Cape.

Severe cold, wind, and wet conditions are also expected over Karoo Hoogland and Witzenberg, while gale-force winds are forecast for the Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi districts in the Eastern Cape. The coastline from Plettenberg Bay to Peddie will be hit by very rough seas this weekend.

Elsewhere in the country, cooler, cloudier conditions will dominate, with isolated hot spots forecast for parts of the Eastern Cape.
