Brown Mogotsi Vows to Name Recipients of Matlala Funds Amid Police Raid

Brown Mogotsi Promises to Reveal Others Linked to Matlala Funds
The name Brown Mogotsi has once again captured national attention, this time following a police raid at his Seweding village home near Mahikeng in the North West. The controversial political fixer and businessman has signalled he intends to lift the lid on others allegedly receiving funds from attempted murder-accused tenderpreneur Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed officers had visited Mogotsi’s premises as part of an ongoing investigation that has been closely followed both in Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee and the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Mogotsi’s Explosive Warning
Speaking from Johannesburg after the raid, Mogotsi said he was not at home when police arrived but planned to hand himself over to Sandton police the following day. Far from backing down, he used the opportunity to hint at revelations that could widen the investigation.
“In one of the radio stations I said, if Cat was able to fund the ANC’s January 8th conference with R100,000, don’t you think he told me who else he has given money to?” Mogotsi told journalists. “Now they are making it about Brown Mogotsi and talking about R138,000 for the January 8. A lot is coming. In a week or two, I will be at the Madlanga Commission to give my side of the story.”
Mogotsi stressed that the principle of audi alteram partem giving the other side a chance to respond would guide his testimony.
Allegations and WhatsApp Evidence
Mogotsi has long been linked to attempts to leverage ANC connections for financial gain. Testimony presented at the Madlanga Commission and WhatsApp messages suggest he solicited funds from Matlala and possibly other associates, with some monies reportedly used to finance ANC activities.
While Mogotsi insists he remains an ANC member, the party has distanced itself from him. Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula stated Mogotsi’s membership had expired, a claim Mogotsi dismissed as premature and based on untested evidence.
“I am a member of the ANC and I shall remain a member, a volunteer of the African National Congress. That is the status,” Mogotsi declared, challenging Mbalula’s assertions.
A Wider Political Context
Mogotsi’s warnings come amid heightened scrutiny of the intersection between business, politics, and law enforcement in South Africa. His previous involvement with high-ranking SAPS officials and alleged interference in policing matters has already drawn attention at both the Madlanga Commission and Parliament, raising concerns about accountability and influence-peddling.
Social media has been abuzz with speculation, with many South Africans eager to see whether Mogotsi will indeed reveal additional recipients of Matlala’s funds and what impact such disclosures might have on the ANC, law enforcement, and ongoing corruption investigations.
For now, the nation waits as Mogotsi prepares to testify, promising that what comes next could deepen the web of revelations surrounding political and financial dealings linked to Matlala.
