UK Fugitive Arrested in Cape Town Sent Back in Cuffs

A major fugitive from the United Kingdom has been flown out of Cape Town to face a long list of charges at home. Callum Gower, accused of drug trafficking and money laundering, was extradited on Friday after months in detention at Pollsmoor Prison.

Authorities confirmed that Gower was escorted from Pollsmoor to Cape Town International Airport, where he boarded a flight to the UK. His departure took place under tight security, with officials handing him over directly to UK law enforcement.

Arrest in Constantia

Interpol arrested Gower in 2024 while he was hiding out in Constantia, one of Cape Town’s most affluent suburbs. His mother, Caroline Sevier, was arrested in Sea Point during the same operation. Both had fled their home in Sussex to escape prosecution.

The pair were wanted in the UK for drug trafficking, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and money laundering. South Africa received the extradition request in 2023 through diplomatic channels, setting the legal process in motion.

What Happens Next

Gower is expected to face trial in the UK once formally handed over. UK authorities detailed the evidence against him in the extradition application, which paved the way for his return. His mother’s extradition process is understood to be ongoing.

The case highlights how international cooperation between Interpol, South African authorities, and the UK government has closed in on suspects who believed they could disappear into foreign cities.
