Hawks Rescue Gqeberha Woman, Arrest Nine in Eastern Cape Kidnapping Sting

Hawks Rescue Woman, Dismantle Kidnapping Syndicate in Eastern Cape
A week-long nightmare ended for 62-year-old Tracey Fourie of Gqeberha after the Hawks executed a precision operation, rescuing her from an alleged kidnapping plot and arresting nine suspects connected to the crime.
Lieutenant Colonel Avele Fumba, Hawks spokesperson, said officers intercepted the suspects on Friday, recovering ransom money, unlicensed firearms, and two vehicles reportedly used in the crime.
“This operation was made possible through close cooperation with Magma Security, Crime Intelligence, and the Local Criminal Record Centre,” Fumba said. “Rapid mobilisation and intelligence-led execution delivered a crushing blow to those who thought they could terrorise the community.”
Kidnapping and Ransom
Fourie was reportedly held captive for a week while negotiations for ransom took place. The Hawks closely monitored the situation and intervened just in time to secure her safe release.
“Within hours of her release, our team dismantled the syndicate and arrested multiple suspects,” Fumba added.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities warned that follow-up operations are ongoing, and more arrests may follow. The Hawks urged the public to share any information that could assist investigations into the broader network.
Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya, Provincial Head of the Hawks, hailed the success.
“This case proves that the Hawks will never allow ruthless criminals to hold our people hostage. Those who prey on the vulnerable will be hunted down, their networks dismantled, and justice served,” Ngwenya said.
The operation highlights the Hawks’ ongoing commitment to tackling organised crime in the Eastern Cape and protecting residents from violent criminal networks.
