EFF Slams Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Plan as “Blueprint for Foreign Takeover” Not Peace

Donald Trump’s recently announced 20-point ceasefire plan for Gaza has been welcomed by several world powers, but South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is having none of it.
While governments across the globe cautiously embraced the proposal as a possible route to ending the fighting, the EFF issued a fiery rejection, warning that the plan is “a blueprint for the foreign takeover of Gaza and the erasure of Palestinian sovereignty.”
What’s in Trump’s Proposal?
Presented at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump’s plan includes:
-
A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas
-
The release of hostages within 72 hours
-
The full disarmament of Hamas
-
A gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
-
A post-war transitional authority, chaired by Trump himself
To many, this sounded like a peace framework. To the EFF, it sounded more like occupation in new packaging.
“Peace Supervised by the Very Powers Responsible for War”
The EFF argues that Trump’s plan treats Palestinians not as a people with rights, but as subjects to be “managed, supervised and rebuilt” under Western control.
The party drew particular ire at one detail in the proposal, the creation of a “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump and joined by Tony Blair.
That’s where the gloves came off.
“Tony Blair, a war criminal who played a leading role in the illegal invasion of Iraq, cannot possibly be trusted with guiding peace,” the EFF said.
“His presence exposes the plan’s true intent, not to end violence, but to entrench imperialist forces in Gaza.”
“Far From Peace, This Is Repackaged Domination”
According to the EFF, Trump’s plan offers no real path to Palestinian freedom. Instead, they claim it:
-
Distracts from global outrage over alleged genocide in Gaza
-
Normalises occupation by calling it reconstruction
-
Locks Palestinians into foreign-managed dependency
Their message was unequivocal:
“True peace will never come from schemes drafted in Washington or London. It will only come when Palestinians are free to determine their own future.”
Local and Global Solidarity
South Africa has long positioned itself as a vocal supporter of Palestinian liberation, drawing parallels between Palestinian occupation and apartheid-era South Africa.
Many on local social media echoed the EFF’s stance, warning that any deal led by foreign superpowers risks sidelining Palestinians entirely.
Some commentators, however, questioned whether outright rejection helps or harms efforts to stop the bloodshed.
Peace or Power Play?
Is Trump’s plan a genuine peace effort or a strategic power grab wrapped in diplomatic language?
For the EFF, there’s no doubt.
Until Palestinians lead their own roadmap for Gaza’s future, any externally controlled ceasefire, no matter how well-packaged, will be seen not as peace, but paternalism.
