Security Expert Demands Arrest After Ekurhuleni Cop Filmed Taking Bribe
A traffic officer from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) is under fire after video footage surfaced showing him demanding a bribe from a motorist.
Security strategist Andy Mashaile, a retired Interpol ambassador, has called for the officer to be arrested immediately and dismissed if found guilty. He described the act as “purely criminal” and warned that such behavior damages trust in law enforcement.
What the Video Shows
-
The motorist claims he was pulled over on Albertina Sisulu Road while returning from Johannesburg CBD.
-
The officer reportedly inspected the vehicle, noticed oil on the engine, and demanded a “tax” payment in exchange for returning his documents.
-
After standing waiting for about 15 minutes, the motorist recorded giving the officer R50.
Public Calls for Consequences
Mashaile said this is more than a rogue act it’s a symptom of corrupt networks within law enforcement. He argued:
-
The officer should be suspended pending investigation
-
A criminal case should be opened
-
If convicted, the officer must be dismissed
He also said supervisors involved should be held accountable.
How Ekurhuleni Responded
City spokesperson Phakamile Mbengashe confirmed that the city has “noted with concern” the video. An internal audit has been launched, and legal and disciplinary processes have been initiated.
Why It Matters
This incident has stirred public anger because it reflects a broader issue of corruption within traffic enforcement. People expect law enforcement to uphold the law not use uniforms as tools for extortion
