Storms or Sunshine: Gauteng’s Weekend Weather Forecast Revealed
Gauteng is heading into one of those weekends that keep everyone guessing. The South African Weather Service has issued a detailed outlook that paints a picture of warm sunshine in some areas and sudden afternoon storms in others. It is the kind of forecast that feels familiar to anyone who has ever tried to plan a braai or a Saturday outing in this province.
A Weekend Split Between Heat and Afternoon Showers
Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela explained that both Saturday and Sunday will be mostly warm with patches of cloud. Saturday is expected to bring isolated to scattered showers in the afternoon, mainly across Pretoria and Johannesburg. These storms will roll through during the mid-afternoon before clearing out by the evening. Sunday, however, looks much calmer, with clearer skies and little to no rainfall expected.
Pretoria: Hot, Humid, and Storm-Prone on Saturday
Pretoria begins Saturday with heavy humidity reaching 70 percent in the early hours. Skies will shift from cloudy to partly cloudy as the morning unfolds. From the afternoon, the city can expect showers and thundershowers while winds move from an easterly pattern to a north-westerly breeze later in the day.
Temperatures will peak at a very warm 32 degrees. Rainfall remains limited at around 3 millimetres with a thirty percent chance that showers will develop. Humidity will dip sharply to the mid-twenties during the afternoon before climbing again in the evening.
Sunday tells a different story. Pretoria wakes up to clear skies with moderate humidity at around sixty percent. Slight rain is possible later in the day, although the official probability sits at zero percent. Heat will push even higher, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees under mostly sunny conditions.
Johannesburg: Cloudy Start With Possible Thundershowers
Johannesburg follows a similar pattern on Saturday. The city begins the day under cloud cover before moving to partly cloudy skies. Afternoon thundershowers remain a possibility as winds shift from a northerly flow to a north-westerly one.
Temperatures range from a cool sixteen degrees in the early morning to a warm 29 degrees later in the day. Like Pretoria, Johannesburg can expect 3 millimetres of rain with a thirty percent chance of storms.
On Sunday, Joburg residents can expect a mostly dry day. Skies start clear in the morning and become partly cloudy by the evening. Heat rises slightly to a maximum of 30 degrees with no rainfall expected.
A Typical Gauteng Summer Weekend
This forecast reflects the province’s classic late-summer personality. Sunshine teases you into planning your day, only for afternoon storms to consider making an appearance. For outdoor lovers, the message is simple. Enjoy the warm mornings, watch the clouds closely, and keep your umbrellas within reach.
