Joburg Residents Face Water Disruptions as Rand Water Starts Pipeline Maintenance

Johannesburg residents are being urged to brace for water supply disruptions this week as Rand Water begins planned maintenance on its O2 pipeline from Monday, 15 July to Friday, 18 July 2025.
According to Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombusi Shabalala, several areas in the metro will experience low water pressure or complete outages during this period.
“Johannesburg residents are reminded that Rand Water will be conducting maintenance at its Palmette system from the 15th to the 18th of July,” she said. “During this period, residents may experience low water pressure to no water at all.”
Areas Affected
The maintenance will impact large parts of the city, particularly:
-
Sandton
-
Midrand
-
Alexander Park
-
Linksfield
-
Randjieslaagte
These areas are all supplied via systems and reservoirs connected to the affected pipeline.
What Residents Should Do
Residents in the affected zones are advised to:
-
Store enough water ahead of time for household use.
-
Limit water usage during the maintenance period.
-
Report leaks or issues via the City of Johannesburg’s water emergency channels.
Johannesburg Water has promised to provide updates on the restoration of supply and any emergency measures that may be taken.
