Police Launch Massive Manhunt After Seven Detainees Escape in Ladysmith
Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a massive manhunt after seven detainees escaped from a police transport van in Ladysmith on Wednesday evening.
According to authorities, twelve detainees had been transported from Dundee Magistrate’s Court, where they appeared on various charges earlier in the day.
Escape at Helpmekaar Road
The escape occurred as the police vehicle entered Ladysmith at the Helpmekaar Road intersection in the Model Kloof area. Police say the back door of the van was allegedly kicked open, allowing seven detainees to flee into the surrounding area.
The remaining detainees were secured, but the escape triggered an urgent search operation.
Manhunt Underway
Units from Dundee, Glencoe, Wasbank, and Ladysmith, supported by K9 teams, have been deployed to track down the escapees.
Police are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information is urged to contact their nearest police station immediately.
