Love Triangle Turns Deadly: Limpopo Axe Murder Sparks Manhunt
Police in Limpopo are hunting a 51-year-old man accused of hacking another man to death with an axe in Wegdraai Village, Capricorn District. The killing, linked to a violent love triangle, has left one person dead and a woman in hospital.
Confrontation Over a Relationship
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the drama unfolded late on Monday night after two brothers confronted a man they believed was romantically involved with the elder brother’s girlfriend.
-
The suspects stormed into the victim’s homestead, where he and a 38-year-old woman were present.
-
A heated confrontation escalated, and the elder brother allegedly struck the 55-year-old man with an axe.
-
The woman was also attacked and suffered serious injuries before the brothers fled.
Paramedics declared the man dead on the scene, while the woman was rushed to hospital.
One Brother Arrested, Another at Large
Police quickly tracked down the younger brother, aged 20, at his home.
-
Officers recovered the axe used in the attack, which the suspect had attempted to wash to destroy evidence.
-
It was later revealed that the younger brother is in South Africa illegally.
-
He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and contravention of the Immigration Act.
The older brother, identified as Jonas Makhura, remains at large. Police have launched an intensive manhunt to bring him in.
Police Condemn Brutal Killing
Provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the killing.
“This was a brutal act of violence. We call on communities to work closely with us to ensure the outstanding suspect is arrested. No one is above the law,” Hadebe said.
