Limpopo Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Killing Estranged Wife, Stepdaughter, and Another Man

The High Court in Limpopo has sentenced 61-year-old Wilfred Moruthanyane Nkadimeng from Burgersfort to an effective 25 years in prison for the murders of his estranged wife, stepdaughter, and another man.

Nkadimeng was convicted of three counts of murder and one of attempted murder. He was handed a total sentence of 83 years, which will run concurrently, and was also declared unfit to own a firearm.

Brutal killings in Bothashoek

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the murders happened on 26 September 2022 in Bothashoek.

Nkadimeng fatally shot his estranged wife, Themia Clara Morema, after an argument. He then killed Tlou Solomon Molokomme, who arrived at the scene, before turning the gun on his stepdaughter, Nomasonto Morema.

He also fired at a tenant but missed.

Court hears of family devastation

During sentencing, advocate Lethabo Mashiane presented victim impact statements describing how Themia was the “pillar of the family” and how her and her daughter’s deaths left loved ones shattered.

The court heard that the family is now responsible for raising Themia’s child and grandchildren.

Mashiane argued that the crimes were premeditated, rooted in domestic violence, and aggravated by Nkadimeng’s refusal to accept responsibility.

NPA welcomes sentence

Limpopo director of public prosecutions, advocate Ivy Thenga, welcomed the ruling.

“It can never be overemphasised how important human life is, and therefore we will be vigorous in our pursuit of these cases to serve as a deterrent to would-be murderers,” Thenga said.
