Limpopo Police Recover Hijacked Mahindra Bakkie and Stolen Toyota Corolla Cross
Arrest in Malamulele
A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Shitlhelani village, Malamulele, after police found him in possession of a hijacked Mahindra S6 Karoo bakkie.
According to provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, detectives received a tip-off about a suspected stolen vehicle at a local house. When officers inspected the property, they found the bakkie hidden in a kraal garage.
Checks confirmed the vehicle had been hijacked during a house robbery in Boiketlong, North West. The suspect was arrested on the spot and is set to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
Second bust in Polokwane
In a separate operation, Limpopo police intercepted a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid worth about R400,000 on the N1 near Polokwane.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers launched an anti-smuggling operation after receiving intelligence about the vehicle’s movement. The car was stopped and checked, revealing it had been stolen in Heidelberg, Gauteng, in January 2025.
The driver was immediately arrested and detained.
Police praise intelligence work
Both cases highlight the role of coordinated intelligence in disrupting cross-province vehicle smuggling operations. Provincial police confirmed investigations are ongoing and more arrests are expected.
