MK Party Bids Farewell to Zamathembu Ngcobo: A Tireless Voice for the Marginalised

The late MP’s unwavering fight for justice and dignity leaves behind a legacy of service that South Africa won’t soon forget
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party is mourning the passing of one of its most respected public servants, Zamathembu Nokuthula Ngcobo, a Member of Parliament in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), who died on June 21, 2025, after a short illness.
In a heartfelt statement released over the weekend, MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela described Ngcobo as “a dedicated servant of the people, a tireless advocate for the downtrodden and marginalised, and a beacon of hope for countless South Africans.”
A Champion for the Underserved
Ngcobo, who served with distinction in the NCOP, made it her life’s mission to bring the voices of the overlooked into the halls of power. Known for her fierce empathy, unwavering principle, and grounded leadership style, she used every platform available to address historical injustice, systemic inequality, and the needs of South Africa’s most vulnerable citizens.
“Her contributions to parliamentary debates and committee work were always rooted in people-centred governance,” the party said. “She was never afraid to speak uncomfortable truths in pursuit of justice.”
Whether it was fighting for housing rights in rural KwaZulu-Natal, pressing for improved public health services, or standing up for gender equity in national policy, Ngcobo was relentless in her commitment to equity and human dignity.
Remembered with Reverence
Ngcobo’s colleagues in Parliament recall her as a leader who never sought the spotlight, but who left a deep impression through her humility, compassion, and courageous clarity of purpose.
“She carried the torch of the struggle not for her own glory, but because she understood that change starts with action,” said a fellow NCOP member, speaking off the record. “Zama didn’t just talk about justice, she lived it.”
Her presence in the NCOP will be sorely missed, especially as the country faces renewed challenges around social cohesion and economic inequality.
Social Media Tributes
Tributes have poured in across social media, with hashtags like #RIPNgcobo and #JusticeForAll trending on X (formerly Twitter).
One user wrote: “She didn’t just speak for us, she made Parliament hear us. A true daughter of the soil.”
Another said: “Zamathembu Ngcobo was not a career politician. She was a people’s politician.”
A Legacy That Lives On
The MK Party has pledged to honour Ngcobo’s memory by continuing her work with renewed commitment.
“As we mourn her loss, we also recommit ourselves to her vision for a just and equitable South Africa,” said Ndhlela. “Her life was a testament to the spirit of selfless service.”
While the nation grapples with the loss of a fierce but humble public servant, Ngcobo’s legacy offers a powerful reminder of what leadership rooted in integrity, empathy, and activism looks like.
Her name may no longer echo through Parliament’s chambers, but her ideals and the people she fought for will carry her memory forward.
Rest in power, Honourable Zamathembu Nokuthula Ngcobo. Your work endures.
