EMPD Specialised Services Unit officers apprehended 17 undocumented foreign nationals , aged between 20 and 50, during operations conducted across the City of Ekurhuleni between 23 and 29 March.

The Operations

Officers carried out targeted law enforcement operations in identified hotspot areas as part of ongoing efforts to address the presence of undocumented individuals in the country.

During the operations, the suspects were questioned but failed to provide valid passports or satisfactory documentation to justify their presence in the country.

The Arrests

All 17 suspects were immediately arrested and transported to various police stations, where they remain in custody.

Immigration authorities have been notified and are expected to conduct further investigations to verify the identities and legal status of those detained.

The Charges

The suspects are facing charges under the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002) and are expected to appear in the respective magistrates’ courts within the jurisdictions where they were apprehended.

The Bottom Line

17 undocumented nationals. Hotspot operations. No valid documents. Arrests made.

Immigration authorities are investigating. The courts will decide. And the operations continue.
