Police are investigating a cash-in-transit bombing in Rabie Ridge, Johannesburg, after a cash van was ambushed and money stolen on Monday, October 27.
According to Colonel Dimakatso Nevhululwi, a group of armed suspects intercepted the cash van along Mapheto Drive using a light blue Chevrolet Cruiser.
“The occupants opened fire, forcing the van to stop. The driver and crew were ordered out at gunpoint before the suspects bombed the vehicle,” Nevhululwi said.
The robbers escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and the crew’s firearms, including a rifle and a pistol.
They fled the scene in three getaway vehicles:
A white Ford Ranger
A white Toyota Prado
A gold Mercedes-Benz
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing for public assistance.
