Randburg CBD Renewal Gains Momentum with Oversight Visit from City Officials

With a strong emphasis on safety, infrastructure, and pedestrian-friendly areas, the City of Johannesburg is reviving efforts to redesign Randburg’s central business district. Themba Mathibe, CEO of the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), and Cllr. Eunice Mgcina, the City’s MMC for Development Planning, visited the region on May 16, 2025, to evaluate ongoing Public Environment Upgrade (PEU) projects.

The city’s larger Urban Development Framework (UDF) for Randburg, which aims to transform the central business district into a vibrant, interconnected urban center, includes these site visits. The objective? to enhance public appeal, safety, and accessibility in one of Johannesburg’s major business districts.

Improvements That Prioritize People

• The Randburg PEU projects are intended to:
