Russian Embassy honours SA Navy Chief Monde Lobese, strengthening Pretoria-Moscow ties
The Russian Embassy in Pretoria has honoured Vice Admiral Monde Lobese, Chief of the South African Navy, with a medal recognising his role in advancing military cooperation between South Africa and Russia.
Medal for military partnership
At the award ceremony, Russian Ambassador to South Africa Roman Ambarov presented the medal to Lobese. The honour was given “for strengthening military cooperation through dedication and service that has significantly contributed to the development of partnership and mutual trust” between the two nations and their armed forces.
Ambassador’s remarks
Ambassador Ambarov described the award as more than a personal achievement. He said it reflected how the work of one individual could strengthen bilateral relations, foster societal ties, and build trust in an uncertain global climate.
He added that the honour symbolised respect, acknowledgement, and ongoing support for progress between Pretoria and Moscow.
Admiral Lobese’s response
Vice Admiral Lobese expressed gratitude to the Russian government, emphasising that the award represented not only his personal efforts but also the collective dedication of South African naval personnel.
He noted that the medal stood as recognition of the shared commitment of both nations to cooperation, progress, and strengthened relations.
