Three Killed in Vigilante-Style Attack in Samora Machel Informal Settlement

Cape Town police have launched a murder investigation after three men were killed in a suspected vigilante-style attack in Samora Machel, an informal settlement in the Western Cape.
The bodies of the victims, aged between 26 and 35, were found on Wednesday morning in separate spots, all within close proximity. The discovery has shocked the local community and raised urgent concerns about rising lawlessness.
Community accusations lead to fatal assault
According to Colonel Andrè Traut, spokesperson for the SAPS in the Western Cape, preliminary evidence suggests the victims were accused by community members of being armed robbers.
“They were targeted and killed in what appears to be a vigilante-style attack,” Traut confirmed.
While the official cause of death will be determined through post-mortem examinations, police believe the men were fatally assaulted.
Police condemn vigilante justice
The SAPS has strongly condemned the killings, calling for calm and respect for the rule of law.
“Vigilantism is condemned in the strongest possible terms,” said Traut. “Such acts are not only unlawful but also undermine the rule of law.”
Authorities are now appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators behind this brutal triple murder.
Call for public assistance
Residents who may have seen or heard anything related to the attacks are urged to contact Crime Stop anonymously on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile app.
As police intensify their investigation, the incident adds to growing concerns about mob justice and community-led violence in areas where trust in the justice system is strained.
