The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has unveiled its August 2025 payment schedule for social grants, with disbursements set to kick off early in the month. If you’re a beneficiary, here’s what you need to know to ensure you receive your grant smoothly, plus a crucial update about potential suspensions if you ignore review notices.

When Will SASSA Pay Your Grant?

The agency manages over 19 million grant payments across the country, ranging from pensions to child support. Here’s the August payment lineup:

  • Older Persons Grant (60-74 years): Tuesday, 5 August 2025

  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 6 August 2025

  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, 7 August 2025

How Much Will You Receive?

Below are the grant amounts beneficiaries can expect in August:

  • Older Persons Grant (60-74 years) and Disability Grant: R2,315

  • Older Persons Grant (75+ years): R2,335

  • War Veterans Grant: R2,315

  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,315

  • Child Support Grant: R560

  • Foster Care Grant: R1,250

  • SRD Grant: R370

Important: SASSA’s Grant Suspension Warning

At a recent media briefing, SASSA CEO Themba Matlou gave a firm reminder about the agency’s review process. Although no grants have been suspended so far, beneficiaries must take review notices seriously, ignoring them could result in your grant being permanently lapsed.

Matlou explained:

“We are legally obligated to give three months’ notice before suspending any grant. But those who fail to respond to these review requests risk losing their grants, sometimes because they may no longer qualify, or there could be concerns about fraud.”

This process helps SASSA protect the integrity of the social assistance system, especially as it collaborates with other bodies to verify beneficiary eligibility.

What You Should Do

If you receive a review notice from SASSA, don’t delay in responding. This isn’t just bureaucracy, it’s crucial for keeping your social grant flowing without interruption.

As the agency ramps up its oversight efforts, Matlou noted the extra workload involved, particularly because quarterly reports must be submitted to National Treasury on progress.

What This Means for South Africans

For millions relying on social grants, SASSA’s payment schedule brings welcome certainty. But with increased scrutiny comes the responsibility to stay on top of communications from the agency.

Especially in these challenging times, keeping your grant active means carefully following all notices and updates from SASSA.

August’s grant payments will start promptly on the 5th, so make sure you’re ready. And remember: if SASSA contacts you for a review, act quickly, your financial support depends on it.

Stay informed, stay vigilant, and support the integrity of South Africa’s vital social assistance system.

If you want reminders or help with grant-related questions, keep an eye on official SASSA channels and trusted community resources.
