Sassa August Grants Roll Out Next Week. Here’s What to Know and What Might Delay Your Payment

More than 19 million South Africans depend on Sassa grants. Here’s how to navigate the August payments and what to do if you face delays again.
As the new month approaches, social grant recipients are gearing up for the August 2025 disbursement cycle. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that payments will begin early next week, but they’ve also issued a caution: not everyone may get their grant on time.
Let’s break down everything you need to know, from the exact payment dates to what’s causing some people to wait longer for their money.
Sassa August 2025 Grant Payment Dates
Here’s when to collect your grant:
-
Older Persons’ Grant: Tuesday, 5 August
-
Disability Grant: Wednesday, 6 August
-
Children’s Grants: Thursday, 7 August
It’s worth noting that these are official disbursement dates, and delays may occur depending on banking institutions, Post Office availability, or grant reviews.
Grant Amounts: What You’ll Receive This Month
Here’s a quick refresher on what each grant pays out:

-
Old Age (75+ years): R2 335
-

Still Waiting? You Might Be Under Review
Sassa Senior Media Relations Manager Andile Tshona confirmed this week that the grant review process is still ongoing, and some recipients may again be caught in the system this August.
While Sassa is sending SMS notifications to those flagged for review, Tshona admitted that technical issues – like outdated phone numbers, mean not everyone will get the alert.
“We ask that beneficiaries update their personal details with Sassa to make communication better,” he said in a statement to The Citizen.
What to Do If Your Grant Is Delayed
If your payment doesn’t come through on time, you may be one of those flagged for review. In that case, Tshona urged affected recipients to visit their nearest Sassa office as soon as possible.
For elderly or disabled grant holders who can’t make it to an office in person, Tshona recommended starting the process of appointing a procurator (power of attorney) to act on their behalf.
A Recurring Issue for Vulnerable Communities
While Sassa has made progress in streamlining payments post-COVID, delays remain a persistent issue. Social media users have already begun voicing their concerns, with posts on X (formerly Twitter) calling for more transparency and support.
“Another month, another excuse. Sassa must do better for the gogo who waits in the cold for hours,” one user wrote.
“How do they expect people to live when grants don’t arrive on time?” asked another.
With over 19 million people relying on these funds for food, rent, and transport, any hiccup has real-life consequences for millions of South Africans.
Check Your Details and Plan Ahead
If you’re a Sassa beneficiary, now’s the time to confirm your payment date, update your contact details, and get help if you expect trouble accessing your funds.
Even in 2025, delays in grant payments can still happen, but being prepared could save you a week of stress.
If you’re helping a family member or community member with their Sassa affairs, make sure they know what to do and where to go.
Because for many, this isn’t just money. It’s survival.
