Krishin now faces charges over the brutal, execution-style killing of Justin Pillay, who was shot more than 30 times in his own home this July. The shooting, allegedly carried out by men posing as police officers, happened while Pillay was asleep, in full view of his 68-year-old father, Poobalan Govindsamy Pillay.

Cele, the victim of the attempted murder, described being shot in the right knee and assaulted with stones during the incident. “I was lying on the ground and did not see what happened next,” he told the court. Cele identified all four accused as people he knew from the same community, emphasizing the tangled network of family ties and local criminal activity in Shallcross.
