From Feud to Forgiveness? Trump Leaves Door Open After Musk’s Fiery Outburst

Trump Leaves Door Open After Musk’s Fiery Outburst
Just when you thought American politics couldn’t get more unpredictable, a headline-grabbing feud between two of the biggest egos on the planet Donald Trump and Elon Musk might be heading for an unexpected truce.
Over the past week, social media, political pundits, and newsrooms were abuzz with a high-profile spat that saw the once-aligned billionaire-innovator and former president trade blows over a new federal spending bill. But now, it seems Trump is taking the high road or at least, the strategic one.
?The ice has broken: Trump said that he could forgive Musk and does not hold a grudge against him.
Nevertheless, the American president noted that he is still disappointed with his former friend, but does not blame him for what happened.

An Unexpected Meltdown
It all started with Trump’s much-hyped “Big Beautiful” tax and spending bill a centrepiece of his second-term agenda. Musk, who had recently stepped down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), didn’t just criticize the bill, he scorched it.
He accused Trump of undercutting his department’s mission to reduce wasteful government spending and slammed the administration’s rollback of EV incentives, which had helped Tesla dominate the electric vehicle market.
The fallout quickly went personal. Musk accused Trump of “ingratitude” and even backed whispers of impeachment. He threatened to halt launches of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, essentially holding part of America’s space programme hostage. Trump responded in kind, saying Musk had “gone crazy,” blaming his change in behaviour on the EV policy changes. Things reached boiling point when Musk posted, then deleted a wild accusation tying Trump to Jeffrey Epstein.
A Pause in the Political Crossfire
In an interview with The New York Post, Trump’s tone shifted. “I have no hard feelings,” he said. “But I was really surprised that that happened.” While calling Musk’s backlash disappointing, he appeared to soften — even hinting at forgiveness: “I guess I could,” he mused.
That wasn’t the only surprise. Hours earlier, Musk posted a rare note of humility on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
He didn’t specify which post he regretted, though the Epstein comment was quickly scrubbed from his timeline. Behind the scenes, insiders claim aides from both camps are working through unofficial channels to de-escalate tensions.
What’s Really Going On Here?
While it’s easy to write this off as just another Trump-Musk drama, there’s more to unpack. Musk’s tenure at DOGE had become a symbol of tech-bureaucracy fusion, a Silicon Valley CEO trying to overhaul Washington waste. His frustration at the bill could reflect broader tensions between federal policy and private innovation.
But there’s also political calculus at play. Trump, eyeing the 2025 elections and eager to consolidate his MAGA base while keeping tech billionaires within reach, may see Musk as too influential to stay mad at. Musk, on the other hand, has businesses — from Tesla to SpaceX — that still rely heavily on federal contracts and regulatory goodwill.
Public Reactions Are Divided
Reactions online have been predictably divided. Trump supporters accused Musk of betrayal, while Musk’s die-hard fans hailed him for “standing up to power.” X (formerly Twitter) threads are filled with memes of Dragon spacecrafts firing lasers at MAGA hats, and vice versa.
Others are calling this whole saga political theatre. “Two billionaires fighting on social media while the rest of us worry about food prices,” one user wrote. “Forgive each other? Sure. But how about fixing the mess you both helped make?”
Is This the End of the Feud?
Probably not. But it may be the start of a political recalibration between two men who seem to oscillate between alliance and animosity. If this week is anything to go by, we’re likely to see more tweets, more tension and maybe another round of apologies, before November 2025.
One thing’s certain: in the Trump-Musk universe, the line between policy and personal drama is as thin as a tweet.
