Late Drama and Grit Define Midweek Betway Premiership Action

The midweek Betway Premiership fixtures dished up everything South African football fans love: drama, grit, and goals that arrive when you least expect them. Golden Arrows and Sekhukhune United both showed resilience, turning tough moments into results that kept supporters buzzing long after the final whistle.
Arrows Strike in Stoppage Time
At Moses Mabhida, Golden Arrows gave their fans reason to sing late into the night. After falling behind just ten minutes in when Magesi’s Mcedi Vandala finished coolly past debutant goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo, the Durban side looked rattled.
But as has been the story of their season so far, Sede Dion brought them back into the game almost instantly. The Ivorian forward, enjoying a red-hot streak, scored his third goal in as many matches, giving Arrows the spark they needed.
Magesi fought hard despite losing their scorer Vandala to injury before half-time. Wonderboy Makhubu came close on two occasions, his aerial threat keeping the hosts nervous. Arrows also had their chances, with a dramatic goal-line clearance denying them a second.
Just as it looked like the sides would share the spoils, substitute Nqubeko Dlamini broke Magesi hearts. Deep into stoppage time, he timed his run to perfection, beating the offside trap and steering home the winner. The stadium erupted as Arrows clinched a 2–1 comeback victory, leaving fans on social media calling it “the most Arrows way to win a game.”
Sekhukhune Show Resilience
In Durban, Sekhukhune United extended their unbeaten start to the season, but not without a scare. AmaZulu, backed by a lively home crowd, broke their defensive record in the 20th minute. Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya finished smartly after excellent work by Andiswa Sithole, sparking celebrations among Usuthu supporters.
Eric Tinkler’s men, however, refused to crumble. With reinforcements in the line-up, including Miguel Timm and Chibuike Ohizu, Sekhukhune pushed for a response. Their persistence paid off six minutes from the end when new signing Ronaldo Maarman scored his first goal for the club, salvaging a crucial point.
The night went from frustrating to disastrous for AmaZulu when Riaan Hanamub was sent off in stoppage time, leaving the side to close the game with ten men. On social media, AmaZulu fans voiced their disappointment, while Sekhukhune supporters praised the team’s fighting spirit.
What These Results Mean
For Arrows, Wednesday night was about momentum and belief. Snatching victory at the death keeps their supporters dreaming of a top-half finish, while also underlining the squad depth coach Mabhuti Khenyeza is building.
For Sekhukhune, the story is one of consistency. Remaining unbeaten, even when not at their best, signals maturity in a side determined to stay competitive across the season.
With the Betway Premiership heating up early, both results add layers of intrigue to a campaign where every point, and every late goal, could shape the table.
