Brad Binder Eyes Redemption at British Grand Prix After Le Mans Wipeout

Published

on

Brad Binder of South Africa is aiming for redemption after a difficult performance in France as he prepares for this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Two weeks ago, the Red Bull KTM rider had a disappointing weekend at Le Mans, finishing last in both the sprint and main race. In stark contrast to his typical top-10 showings in previous seasons, that double DNF (did not finish) dropped him to 14th in the championship standings with just 32 points.

Binder is currently behind Tech3’s Maverick Vinales (40 points) and his factory KTM teammate Pedro Acosta (46 points), both of whom have maintained a steady pace and come close to finishing on the podium this season. Among the leaders, Vinales in particular has demonstrated that the RC16 machine is capable of competing.

However, Binder is accustomed to retaliating. Since entering the premier class in 2020, he has outscored every teammate and, with the exception of his rookie year, has never finished a full season outside of the top 10. Given his strong track record there, the Silverstone circuit might be exactly what he needs to get back on track. At the 5.9km layout, the South African has placed third in every class, including Moto3, where he won the title in 2016.

Marc Marquez has so far led the championship battle with 171 points, followed by Alex Marquez (149) and Pecco Bagnaia (120). Binder still has time to make a comeback given that he has only finished six of the 22 races, but he will need to do well this weekend to remain in the running.

Moodley Returns, Darryn Continues to Heal

Darryn Binder, Brad’s younger brother, will miss another Moto2 race while he heals from a hand fracture he suffered during Le Mans practice. In two weeks, the Gresini rider is anticipated to make a comeback at the Aragon Grand Prix.

Ruché Moodley, a Moto3 rider, will be returning to action at Silverstone, which is good news for South African fans. Moodley is now prepared to rejoin the grid for BOE Motorsport after missing time due to a broken right hand prior to the Spanish Grand Prix.
