NikitaKaizer Chiefs have confirmed that head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s time at Naturena has officially come to an end, bringing a dramatic close to a short but significant chapter in the club’s recent history.
After weeks of uncertainty, Amakhosi announced on Friday that they had reached a mutual agreement with the Tunisian coach to terminate his contract. The decision follows reports that Nabi had lost the club’s confidence ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign and the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
Chiefs’ hierarchy described the split as amicable but emphasised the need for “continuity and stability” as they look to rebuild under new leadership.
Assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze will take over as interim co-coaches for the rest of the season. The pair already led Chiefs during their recent CAF fixture in Angola, and their promotion marks a fresh start on the sidelines.
“Their leadership will ensure continuity and stability as the club prepares for upcoming fixtures domestically and on the continent,” read the club’s statement, thanking fans for their patience and loyalty.
Nabi’s exit comes just months after he brought long-awaited joy to the Amakhosi faithful by lifting the Nedbank Cup in May 2025 Chiefs’ first trophy in a decade. The victory seemed to signal a turning point for the club after years of frustration, but cracks began to show soon after.
Behind the scenes, sources suggested tensions over squad management and future planning created friction between Nabi and the Chiefs board. The team’s uneven start to the new campaign didn’t help his cause, adding pressure on the coach to deliver results in both the domestic league and continental competitions.
For many fans, Nabi’s departure feels like déjà vu another reset for a club still chasing stability and consistency after years of managerial turnover. Chiefs’ supporters have been vocal online, expressing both gratitude for the Nedbank Cup triumph and frustration at yet another mid-season shake-up.
With Ben Youssef and Kaze now steering the ship, the focus shifts to whether the pair can keep the momentum alive and push the club deeper into the CAF Confederation Cup.
Nabi’s brief tenure may have ended sooner than expected, but it will be remembered for breaking a decade-long drought and reigniting hope at one of South Africa’s most iconic football institutions. The next few months will show whether Amakhosi can finally turn that spark into something lasting.
