Kaizer Chiefs legend Lucas Radebe has called on the club to give coach Nasreddine Nabi another season to prove his worth. Nabi led Amakhosi to their first major trophy in 10 years by winning the Nedbank Cup, a victory that also qualified the club for the next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite this success, Chiefs have struggled in the Betway Premiership this season and face the risk of finishing outside the top eight again if they do not secure a favourable result against Polokwane City in their upcoming match at FNB Stadium.

Radebe acknowledged the league difficulties but emphasised the importance of Nabi’s cup triumph. He said:

“It’s a pity that we judge coaches by results and he wasn’t great in the league but got us what we haven’t had in the longest time, which is a trophy,”
“I think Nabi deserves another season so that we can see where he is heading.”

The Need for Investment and Support

The former Chiefs captain stressed that for Nabi and the team to become more consistent contenders for honours, the club must support the coach by investing in quality players.

“For him to bring consistency and the team to get better in the league so that we challenge for honours and qualify for continental football, the club must invest in players. We are hungry for success and Nabi needs the necessary support from the club. This is a big brand on the continent and support for the coach when it comes to recruiting players is crucial,” Radebe said.
“They won the Nedbank Cup and this could be a great platform on which to build a team that will consistently win trophies and compete for league honours.”

Nasreddine Nabi, head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, led the team to a Nedbank Cup victory and CAF Confederation Cup qualification, with support from club legend Lucas Radebe, who praised Nabi’s efforts despite league challenges. Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs marketing director, confirmed ongoing support for the coach ahead of a key Betway Premiership clash against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium. Club Management Confirms Support for Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung confirmed that the club supports Nabi and intends to review his position at the end of the season.

“We back the coach and we have had this discussion during the season. It is not a new conversation and I have answered it repeatedly. The coach has a contract and we back him. We are going to sit down with him and see what needs to happen and what needs to change. But we have been backing the technical team and the coach,” Motaung said.
“Right now the focus is to finish the season this weekend and then sit down and see what happens. But he has a contract, he is working tirelessly with his assistants to make sure things are tied up properly. I can’t speak to that [whether Nabi is going to stay or not] but right now we are focused on moving forward.”

What Lies Ahead for Amakhosi?

The final matches of the 2025 Betway Premiership season will be crucial for both Kaizer Chiefs and Nasreddine Nabi. How the team finishes could influence decisions about the coach’s future at Naturena.

With strong backing from club legends like Lucas Radebe and cautious optimism from management, Nabi may be given the chance to build on the Nedbank Cup success and restore Chiefs as a dominant force in South African football.
