The buzz around the Rugby World Cup 2027 is already building momentum. More than 750,000 tickets have been snapped up during the tournament’s opening sales window, a clear sign that fans across the globe are eager to secure their place at rugby’s biggest spectacle.

With over 18 months still to go before kickoff in Australia, the early ticket rush suggests that the next edition of the tournament could be one of the most highly attended Rugby World Cups in history.

Fans Rush To Secure Seats

The initial sales phases, including the Superfan and Presale windows, triggered a massive wave of demand. According to organisers, more than half of all presale tickets were purchased within the first six hours, reflecting just how quickly supporters moved to secure their seats.

Interest has not been limited to a few headline matches. Fans have been booking tickets across pool fixtures and knockout rounds in all seven host cities, signalling widespread excitement for the entire tournament schedule.

Several blockbuster clashes have already attracted particular attention. Early matchups such as Australia vs New Zealand, England vs Wales, and Ireland vs Scotland are among the fixtures driving the surge in demand.

A Global Audience Already Engaged

The scale of interest has been truly international. Supporters from 135 different countries have already secured tickets, underlining rugby’s growing worldwide reach.

While Australian fans currently account for the largest share of purchases, traditional rugby nations remain strongly represented. Countries like the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France and South Africa are among the leading buyers so far.

For South African supporters, the early scramble for tickets is hardly surprising. The Springboks’ global success and passionate fan base mean many supporters are already planning trips to Australia, hoping to watch the defending champions chase another title on rugby’s biggest stage.

A Bigger Tournament On The Horizon

The 2027 edition of the Rugby World Cup will mark a new chapter for the competition, as it expands from 20 teams to 24 participating nations. The larger format will produce 52 matches and offer around 2.5 million tickets across the tournament.

The expanded lineup also opens the door for emerging rugby nations to feature on the world stage. Teams such as Hong Kong China and Zimbabwe are expected to bring fresh narratives and broaden the tournament’s global appeal.

Organisers See Early Ticket Sales As A Major Milestone

Rugby World Cup 2027 Managing Director Chris Stanley described the early ticket sales as an important moment in the tournament’s buildup.

He said reaching the 750,000-ticket mark so early demonstrates the appetite for a truly international rugby celebration.

Stanley added that the tournament is expected to draw supporters from across the world, creating an atmosphere that goes beyond sport and turns the event into a global gathering of rugby communities.

Next Ticket Phase Coming Soon

With the presale phase now closed, fans who missed out still have another opportunity. Tournament organisers are encouraging supporters to register ahead of the official application phase in May, when the next batch of tickets will become available.

If the opening sales window is anything to go by, those hoping to attend Rugby World Cup 2027 may need to act quickly. The race for seats has already begun.
