CSA Appoints Shukri Conrad as Full-Time Proteas Head Coach

Cricket South Africa (CSA) have confirmed Shukri Conrad as the new head coach across all formats for the Proteas Men’s team, expanding his role beyond Tests. Conrad’s new mandate begins with the T20 tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in July.
The appointment comes as CSA restructures its national team setup in preparation for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027, which South Africa will host. Conrad, 58, has led the Test team since January 2023 and will now oversee all three formats.

CSA backs Conrad’s leadership across formats
CSA’s Director of National Teams and High Performance, Enoch Nkwe, praised Conrad’s impact on the red-ball side and expressed confidence in his ability to drive success in the limited-overs formats.
“Shukri’s track record with the red-ball team speaks for itself. He has laid a solid foundation and instilled a strong identity within the Test environment. I’m excited to see him bring that structure to the white-ball space,” said Nkwe.
“Having been part of the national setup over the past two years, he understands the demands of international cricket. He has also established sound relationships with the players. We’re confident he will help us maintain our upward trajectory across all three formats.”
Conrad: “An unbelievable honour”
Reacting to the news, Conrad said he was humbled by the opportunity and excited about the team’s future.
“Coaching the Test side has been the greatest privilege of my cricket journey, and to now oversee the white-ball teams as well is something unbelievably special. South African cricket has incredible white-ball talent — from our experienced players to emerging juniors,” he said.
Conrad said careful planning would be essential in managing player workloads, with major tournaments coming up, including the ICC World Test Championship final in June, the T20 World Cup next year, and the 50-over World Cup in 2027.
“We want to obviously be the best in the world in all three forms of the game, and that is no doubt my No. 1 target and goal for the Proteas,” he added.
His next assignment is the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s, from 11–15 June.
