Sipho Mbule Warned to Fix Lifestyle After Sundowns Return

Once regarded as one of South Africa’s most promising midfield prospects, Sipho Mbule is currently facing a turning point in his career. Mbule’s loan at Sekhukhune United has ended early after he was sent back to Mamelodi Sundowns due to disciplinary issues, including allegations of alcohol abuse.
The 26-year-old made an early impression with his vision, inventiveness, and accurate passing to start the 2024–25 season with promise. He scored twice and provided three assists in just 17 games in all competitions. His performances, however, were soon overshadowed by off-field issues, which culminated in an alleged incident where he allegedly showed up for training drunk.
Daniel Cardoso, a defender for Sekhukhune United who shared the field with Mbule, has voiced his worries in public. In an interview with the Soccer Beat Podcast, Cardoso urged Mbule to use this incident as a wake-up call and expressed both disappointment and hope for him.
Cardoso remarked, “Seeing his talent wasted is heartbreaking.” “I’ve had numerous conversations with him. He ought to be playing for his country and even in Europe, but these disciplinary problems are keeping him from doing so.
Cardoso thinks Mbule has time to change direction. “He needs to decide to change, even though he has all the resources he needs to succeed. I sincerely hope that this stage of his life doesn’t result in permanent closures.
Mbule’s Sundowns contract is set to expire next month, and it’s still unclear if the Tshwane powerhouses plan to retain him. It won’t be simple to break into a team full of depth and talent, even if he stays.
Mbule was once a top transfer target for Kaizer Chiefs, and Sundowns took notice once more after he appeared to be regaining his form with Sekhukhune. Rumor had it that he might be included in the FIFA Club World Cup squad. However, those goals now seem to be on hold due to the recent controversies.
For Mbule, the football community’s message is unmistakable: skill by itself won’t propel a career. Whether he achieves the potential that so many think he possesses will depend on his level of discipline, dedication, and personal development.
