As Mamelodi Sundowns prepare for their biggest international challenge yet – the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 – they’ve received a significant off-field boost through a strategic partnership with Carling Black Label.

The well-known South African beer brand has joined forces with Sundowns in a fan-focused campaign that aims to rally national support as the club heads to the United States in June to represent the continent.

A Global Stage Beckons

After clinching their eighth consecutive Betway Premiership title, Sundowns head into the Club World Cup as South Africa’s standard-bearers. Drawn in Group F, they’ll take on a trio of global football heavyweights:

  • Borussia Dortmund (Germany)

  • Fluminense (Brazil)

  • Ulsan HD (South Korea)

Sundowns’ tournament kicks off on 17 June against Ulsan, with their next group-stage test set for 21 June against Borussia Dortmund – a matchup that could redefine their legacy.

Before that, however, the Pretoria-based giants must travel to Cairo this Sunday to face Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League final second leg. With the first match ending 1–1 in Pretoria, Sundowns must win or draw with at least two goals scored to clinch the title.

Carling Black Label’s Role

While not the official sponsor of the club, Carling Black Label has partnered with Sundowns to launch special fan initiatives tied to the Club World Cup. These include:

  • A score predictor platform, allowing fans to guess match outcomes and win prizes.

  • A once-in-a-lifetime travel giveaway for two lucky fans to watch the winning Club World Cup team at their home stadium anywhere in the world.

Kerryn Greenleaf, brand director for Carling Black Label, said the initiative is about uniting South Africans behind their champions.

“We have long been a supporter of South African football and fans. This is a critical moment where we can activate the Club World Cup – a stage many South Africans are not yet familiar with.”

“This is an amazing opportunity where all 32 club champions meet, and Sundowns are playing a key role. We want to rally all fans, not just Sundowns supporters, to stand behind our team on the world stage.”

Why It Matters

The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 marks the debut of a new expanded 32-team format, offering more teams – especially from Africa – a legitimate shot at international recognition.

For Mamelodi Sundowns, this is more than a tournament. It’s a statement of intent. And with campaigns like Carling’s boosting national awareness and fan involvement, the club’s journey becomes a shared experience for South Africans from all walks of life.

From Pretoria to the world, Mamelodi Sundowns are stepping onto football’s grandest club stage – and they won’t be doing it alone. Through strategic partnerships and fan-first campaigns, the road to global glory is being paved with passion, purpose, and national pride.

All eyes on June. Let’s show the world what South African football is made of.
