UCL Wrap: PSG Hit Seven, Arsenal and Barcelona Run Riot as Champions League Rains Goals

It was a night where goals rained across Europe. There were a total of 43 goals scored across the 9 matches played on Tuesday evening. Paris Saint-Germain smashed seven past Bayer Leverkusen, Barcelona and Arsenal tore through their opponents, and Newcastle United humbled Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in front of a roaring St James’ Park. The UEFA Champions League reminded the world again why it remains football’s most electrifying stage.
PSG Run Riot Against Bayer Leverkusen
Paris Saint-Germain produced a dazzling display to crush Bayer Leverkusen 7–2, continuing their unbeaten march through Europe.
Willian Pacho headed PSG into an early lead before Desire Doue netted twice in a dominant first half that also featured goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Mendes. Ousmane Dembele, back from injury, and Vitinha completed the demolition late on.
Despite inconsistent domestic form, Luis Enrique’s side look unstoppable in Europe, moving joint-top of the standings with Inter Milan. The holders’ fluidity and finishing left Leverkusen chasing shadows as PSG extended their perfect start in the competition.

Barcelona flexed their attacking muscle with a 6–1 win over Olympiacos at the Estadi Olímpic Lluis Companys, highlighted by a brilliant hat-trick from 20-year-old Fermin Lopez.
Lopez opened the scoring early before Olympiacos clawed one back through Ayoub El Kaabi’s penalty. The match turned when Santiago Hezze was sent off, allowing Barca to dominate. Lamine Yamal converted a penalty, while Marcus Rashford netted twice to seal the emphatic victory.
Head coach Hansi Flick praised his side’s focus, saying the performance was “exactly what we needed before the Clasico.” The result keeps Barcelona firmly in contention in the Champions League group phase.

Arsenal continued their fine European form with a commanding 4–0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel Magalhães opened the scoring after halftime, setting the tone for a dominant second half. Gabriel Martinelli curled home a stylish finish for 2–0, before Viktor Gyökeres ended his goal drought with two strikes to complete the rout.
The Gunners’ high-intensity play left Atletico chasing the game, and Mikel Arteta hailed his team’s composure, saying they “found the spaces once the game opened up.” Arsenal’s defensive stability and set-piece efficiency have made them one of Europe’s most balanced sides this season.

PSV Eindhoven stunned Serie A champions Napoli 6–2 in Eindhoven to record one of their most memorable European nights.
Napoli’s Scott McTominay opened the scoring, but an own goal from Alessandro Buongiorno, followed by strikes from Ismael Saibari, Ricardo Pepi, Dennis Man (two), and Couhaib Driouech, turned the game into a rout.
Napoli’s frustrations deepened when Lorenzo Lucca was sent off in the second half. PSV’s attacking rhythm and home support made the difference as they continue to rise in the standings with renewed confidence.

Borussia Dortmund triumphed 4–2 over Copenhagen thanks to a clinical brace from Felix Nmecha.
After an own goal temporarily brought the hosts level, Dortmund regained control through a Ramy Bensebaini penalty. Fabio Silva added a late strike before Copenhagen’s 17-year-old Viktor Dadason became one of the youngest scorers in Champions League history with a late header.
Dortmund’s composure and attacking efficiency saw them climb to fourth in the table, setting up a mouthwatering clash with Manchester City in their next outing.

Manchester City ended a five-match winless streak away from home in the Champions League with a controlled 2–0 victory over Villarreal.
Erling Haaland continued his remarkable scoring form by heading home the opener, with Bernardo Silva adding the second before halftime.

Inter Milan extended their flawless European start with a 4–0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise.
Goals from Denzel Dumfries, Lautaro Martínez, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Francesco Pio Esposito sealed the victory for Cristian Chivu’s side, who have yet to concede in this season’s Champions League.
Union started well but were undone by Inter’s precision and tactical discipline. With three wins from three, the Italian giants sit level on points with PSG as they prepare for their next clash against Kairat Almaty at San Siro.
Newcastle United Stun Mourinho’s Benfica at St James’ Park

Newcastle United delivered one of the most complete performances of the night, defeating Jose Mourinho’s Benfica 3–0 in front of a roaring home crowd.
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring in the first half, calmly slotting home Jacob Murphy’s cross for his fourth goal in just three Champions League matches. Harvey Barnes doubled the lead after the break, racing onto a long throw from Nick Pope before finishing in-off the post.
Barnes then added a third late on, finishing coolly through the goalkeeper’s legs after a neat assist from Gordon.
Benfica had their chances, with Dodi Lukebakio denied twice by Pope and striking the upright, but Newcastle were ruthless. The win marked their first back-to-back Champions League victories since 2003.
Eddie Howe’s men have found unexpected heroes in Gordon and Barnes, both stepping up in Europe as new signing Nick Woltemade adjusts to life in England. For Mourinho, it was another tough visit to Tyneside, where his record remains poor despite his historic connection to the late Sir Bobby Robson.
At St James’ Park, though, Newcastle’s hunger and precision stole the spotlight, showing that their European story might just be getting started.
A Night of Statement Wins
From PSG’s seven-goal masterclass to Newcastle’s revival under the lights of St James’ Park, Tuesday’s Champions League fixtures delivered a thrilling reminder of why this competition remains football’s grandest stage.
For Arsenal, Barcelona and Inter, it was another step toward knockout qualification. For PSG, a warning to their rivals. And for Newcastle, a moment that reawakened memories of their old European glory days.
