DHL Western Province’s next generation of women’s rugby stars have officially arrived. The Cape side capped off a flawless campaign at the SA Rugby U20 Women’s Week with a commanding 33–0 win over the Blue Bulls in Johannesburg, cementing their place as the queens of the youth game.

Cape Class In Johannesburg

Played at Queens High School, the final match of the week-long tournament turned into a showcase of Western Province’s attacking flair and defensive steel. It was a performance that left the Bulls chasing shadows from the first whistle.

Led by the dynamic No. 8 Logan Welman and flyhalf Anja le Roux, WP were relentless running in five unanswered tries and sealing their third consecutive victory with a combined scoreline of 134–8 across the tournament.

Welman opened the scoring early, bursting through defenders with a blend of power and precision, before winger Saadiqah Corbett extended the lead with a superb finish in the corner. Le Roux, who was outstanding throughout the competition, produced one of the tries of the tournament when she dummied her way past the Bulls defense from 65 metres out to score under the posts.

By halftime, WP were cruising 21–0 up, and there was no letting up after the break. Welman crossed for her second, and replacement scrumhalf Nikicia Eksteen finished things off with a silky solo effort that brought the crowd to their feet.

A Tournament To Remember

Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal impressed with a 41–5 win over Griquas, and Border bounced back from last year’s heartbreak to claim a strong 33–14 victory over the Golden Lions.
