Spotify And ChatGPT Team Up To Create Personalised Playlists Through Conversation

Spotify And ChatGPT Are Changing The Way You Discover Music
Spotify has just taken its music recommendations to the next level. The streaming giant has officially partnered with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, allowing users to connect their Spotify accounts and create custom playlists or get podcast suggestions simply by chatting.
The feature, now available in English across 145 countries, lets users describe their mood, favourite artists, or even a specific vibe and ChatGPT will generate a playlist through the Spotify app in seconds. Think: “Make me a playlist for sunset drives through Joburg” or “Give me podcasts to help me relax after work.”
Free users can still enjoy classic curated lists like Discover Weekly and New Music Friday, but Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to transform detailed prompts into brand-new, personalised playlists.
How To Use The Feature
Connecting Spotify to ChatGPT is completely optional users can link or unlink their accounts at any time. Once connected, ChatGPT will display the Spotify app within the chat, ready to create or suggest music and podcasts based on what you ask for.
The integration works across both web and mobile for ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users on iOS and Android.
Keeping Artists Protected
While the collaboration highlights Spotify’s growing use of artificial intelligence, the company insists that artists’ rights remain protected. Spotify confirmed that it will not share songs, podcasts, or videos with OpenAI to train AI models, ensuring that creators’ work stays secure.
This update follows Spotify’s move to tighten its policies around AI-generated music. The platform now cracks down on impersonation and spam tracks created using AI voice cloning, while still allowing artists to explore the creative side of the technology responsibly.
Spotify’s head of music, Charlie Hellman, explained: “We’re not here to punish artists for using AI responsibly. We want them to be more creative and give fans better experiences. But we are here to stop those who try to game the system.”
A Glimpse Into The Future Of Streaming
For ChatGPT, the partnership is part of a bigger push to make everyday interactions more useful. The AI tool already integrates with apps like Canva and Coursera, allowing users to design, learn, and create content within one space.
By adding Spotify to the mix, OpenAI is making it easier for people to discover and enjoy entertainment without switching between platforms. With over 800 million weekly ChatGPT users, this collaboration could reshape how people experience music blending tech, creativity, and human emotion into one seamless chat.
In short
Spotify’s partnership with ChatGPT is making music discovery more intuitive, personal, and conversational and it might just change how we listen forever.
