My Favourite Broadway: Jonathan Roxmouth’s Homecoming Hits All the Right Notes

If there’s one performer who can silence a theatre with a breath and lift it back up with a belt, it’s Jonathan Roxmouth. After years of dazzling global audiences as the Phantom of the Opera, South Africa’s own musical theatre titan is finally home, and he’s bringing Broadway with him.

My Favourite Broadway, Roxmouth’s new solo concert event, is more than just a celebration of classic show tunes. It’s a love letter to the roles, songs, and moments that shaped his career. For Jozi fans, it’s also a rare chance to see the acclaimed performer back where it all began, centre stage at the Teatro at Montecasino, for two weekends only.

A Star Returns to His Stage

It’s been a long time coming. Since 2021, Roxmouth has been based mostly abroad, leading international tours in mega-productions from Phantom to Evita. His July–August 2025 season at the Teatro marks a full-circle return, both to the venue and to the audiences that helped build his legacy.

“I have missed the South African audience very much,” says Roxmouth. “The way they generously welcome an artist on stage, it’s grown into a special relationship that I’m looking forward to rekindling.”

The concert pulls from musicals like Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, and more, performed with the kind of emotional range and technical flair that’s earned him standing ovations across continents.

A Full Orchestra, Reimagined Sound

Backing Roxmouth is the newly formed Egoli Symphonic Orchestra, a 32-piece powerhouse brought together by Howard Audio. The ensemble had its breakthrough earlier this year during Red Bull Symphonic and has quickly earned praise for being genre-defying, fresh, and fiercely talented.

And it’s not just the music that’s elevated. The show uses L-Acoustics’ L-ISA Immersive Sound Art, a next-generation audio system that surrounds the audience with sound from all directions. Whether you’re in the front row or the back balcony, you’ll hear every voice, note, and nuance as if you’re sitting in the middle of the orchestra pit.

It’s tech that turns every seat into the best seat in the house.

Adam Howard: The Maestro Behind the Magic

If the name Howard Audio sounds familiar, that’s because Adam Howard has been shaping the sound of South African musical theatre for over two decades. Classically trained in London and now a creative force in Johannesburg, Howard has worked with Roxmouth for over 10 years, producing albums, conducting concerts, and building a musical shorthand that audiences can feel.

“Jonathan is someone we deeply admire,” says Howard. “For me, the proudest moments are when people respond not just to the music, but to the message. That collaboration, when done with heart, can transcend expectation.”

What’s Next for Roxmouth? CHICAGO’s Calling

Fans who can’t get enough of Roxmouth’s charm won’t have to wait long for an encore. He returns to the Teatro stage again from 3 October to 9 November 2025, starring as the smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn in CHICAGO, The Musical.

But first, My Favourite Broadway gives audiences the rare chance to see him in his purest form: no mask, no character, just Jonathan and the songs that made him.
