Your Ultimate Joburg Weekend Guide: The Top Events from 28 to 30 November
The last weekend of November is rolling in with that unmistakable Joburg energy. The malls are buzzing, the lights are glowing, and everyone is trying to squeeze in one more outing before December madness takes over. Whether you want culture, food, music, or something festive, there is plenty happening around the city and beyond.
Big shows and festive lights
If you want something special, The Black Hole Symphony at the Linder Auditorium blends live orchestral music with a visual journey into space. For pure spectacle, Gatsby: A Cirque Extravaganza in Randburg brings acrobatics and roaring twenties glamour to the stage.
Families can enjoy the Joburg Festival of Lights at the Zoo, a peaceful evening walk through illuminated animal sculptures and decorated trees. Central Lights Christmas World in Sandton offers light shows, dinosaurs, snow, and a full festive village for the kids.
Markets and slow shopping
This is peak market season. The Linden Market hosts more than one hundred and fifty makers, live music, and wine tastings, while Kamers Makers in Sandton brings its own huge lineup of South African artisans. Fourways Mall is hosting its final Night Market of the year on the rooftop, and entry is free.
If you feel like a drive, Black Horse Brewery in Magaliesburg is throwing its annual Christmas Market with tastings, food stalls, and live music.
Food, wine, and relaxed weekends
Food lovers can book the Fire Long Table Lunch at Dikeme Farms for a farm-to-table feast with wine pairings. For something theatrical, Le Petit Chef at Blueberry Hill Hotel offers a six-course meal brought to life with 3D projections and storytelling.
For a laid-back Sunday, The Maslow Sandton hosts its Sunday Society Picnic with bubbly, live music and a bright colour-blocking dress code. The Indaba Hotel also offers a Bubbly Affair with bottomless sparkling wine and pizzas.
Music and city nightlife
Younger crowds will head to Rage in the City at 1 Fox Junction, where Amapiano, house, and hip hop take over for two nights. Twilight Festival near Magaliesburg brings multiple dance floors, international DJs, and camping for the full weekend. Flying Fish is hosting a Surprisingly Good Sets event at a secret hangar in Lanseria, with sets also streamed online.
For something calmer, HughFest at Nirox Sculpture Park celebrates local music and the legacy of Hugh Masekela in a beautiful outdoor setting. Pretoria offers a chance to catch Ladysmith Black Mambazo live at the State Theatre.
Comedy, films, and clever conversations
Gilli Apter brings her sharp stand-up comedy to Theatre on the Square in Sandton. Christmas Karma opens in cinemas with a lively retelling of A Christmas Carol set in modern London. At the Wits Digital Dome, Rising Star showcases South Africa’s space research in an immersive full-dome format.
For something more reflective, the Goethe Institut hosts Broken Binary, an evening that turns sound, radio, and archives into a creative experience.
Family fun and outdoor energy
Kids and adults can take on The Gauntlet at Alberton Rugby Club, a massive inflatable obstacle course with slides and tunnels. Girls on Bikes hosts a fun ride from 44 Stanley that ends with chisa nyama. And of course, most markets and light festivals offer plenty of space for families to explore.
A weekend for grown-ups in Pretoria
The Love Expo at Sunbet Arena runs all weekend with stage shows, shopping, and workshops for adults only. Lovers & Friends lands at Time Square with smooth R&B and hip hop for a feel-good evening out.
This weekend is packed from morning to night, whether you stay in Joburg or head up to Pretoria. Pick your vibe, grab your people, and enjoy the last stretch of November before the holiday rush hits.
